Australia’s first purpose-built site for processing post-consumer soft plastics has opened on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales.

iQRenew’s Soft Plastic Engineered Commodity (SPEC) Facility is the culmination of more than four years of testing, trials, investment and innovation.

SPEC is dedicated to sorting and processing 100 per cent post-consumer soft plastics and is well positioned to support the Curby ‘bag-in-a-bin’ program run by councils around the country and future soft plastics collection scheme being developed by industry.

The facility has the capacity to process 15,000 tonnes of material annually, making it the largest facility dedicated to dealing with post-consumer soft plastic recycling, right now in Australia.

Chief Executive Officer Danial Gallagher said iQRenew was proud to be at the forefront of solutions for post-consumer soft plastics in Australia.

“The journey hasn’t been easy, but we are committed to building a robust value chain for this complex waste stream,” Gallagher said.
