Japan targets 25% cut in clothing waste
TOKYO – Japan plans to cut clothing waste from households by a quarter by fiscal 2030, aiming to boost recycling, extend garment lifespans and foster private-sector innovation amid growing environmental concerns over the fashion industry’s impact.
Reports from Japan’s Environment Ministry say it will set a target to cut clothing waste discarded from households by 25% by fiscal 2030 compared with fiscal 2020, as part of a broader push to shrink the environmental footprint of garment production and consumption.
