Electrolux receives Zero Waste to Landfill Certification for its Satu Mare factory

The Electrolux factory in Satu Mare has achieved Zero Waste to Landfill certification, which certifies that 99.44% of the waste generated by the unit’s activity is reused, recycled, composted or sent for energy recovery and no longer ends up in landfills.

The Zero Waste to Landfill program has been implemented in the Electrolux factory in Satu Mare since 2018, significantly contributing to the reduction of waste generated from processes (plastic, cardboard, electronics, chemicals, hazardous waste), as well as household waste, which ends up in landfills: almost 97% less waste sent to landfills in 2024 than when the program started.

According to the latest analysis by Eurostat, in 2022, Romania was in last place in waste recycling, with a rate of just over 3%, given that Romanians produced 301 kilograms of municipal waste per capita. At the same time, if in the EU the average of waste deposited in landfills was 30.2%, in contrast, in Romania, landfilling and other disposal methods were 93.8%.

Results obtained by Electrolux:

• Waste disposal rate reaching landfill of 0.56% – below the 1% target set and pursued by the certification criteria and by over two percentage points compared to the level recorded in the previous year (2.72% in December 2023).
